CRYOSPHERE is inspired by the Matanuska Glacier in Alaska. Climate change has caused ice forms in Alaska to disappear at a disproportionately faster rate than other glacierized regions on Earth. These vast rivers of ice perform a crucial role in regulating the planet’s atmosphere and these arctic areas have been called “ground zero” for climate change, as warming temperatures and melting sea ice impact local communities and influence global precipitation and temperature levels. The Matanuska Glacier has lost over 84 million tons of ice since 2002.
The CRYOSPHERE NFT will be minted on Algorand which is a sustainable and green blockchain. A portion of the proceeds will go to support Cook Inletkeeper, an Alaskan non-profit organization which engages with local communities, Indigenous-led movements, and a strong coalition of groups working to build a bridge to the future by protecting wild salmon landscapes and addressing the climate crisis.
The entire CRYOSPHERE exhibition is offered on the Algorand blockchain. Proceeds will be distributed among the artists, contributors, and the climate action organization.
EPOCH is committed to an ecological, equitable, and sustainable model:
Equitable – Through Algorand’s smart contracts, we are able to split the profits between the participating artists, the non-profit organization Cook Inletkeeper, and EPOCH. 60% will be split evenly between all the participating artists, 15% will be donated to Cook Inletkeeper, and 25% will remain with the gallery. Each participant will receive one Artist Proof (AP) edition. These AP editions are not part of the 250 publicly-offered editions for sale.
Sustainable – By acquiring the NFT, collectors help support the practices of its participating artists, climate change efforts, and the production of future EPOCH exhibitions. EPOCH has chosen to forgo an auction format in hopes to circumvent the accelerated speculation of the current market. This ecological and equitable model is also socially sustainable, paving the way for communities of artists to recognize that we don’t have to be bound to the structures of traditional gallery systems.

EPOCH has integrated the ability to acquire the NFT directly from our site.
1) On your mobile device, click here to install PeraWallet.app (https://perawallet.app/). Pera Wallet is a secure Algorand wallet for mobile devices where you can transfer and receive ALGO tokens and make online purchases with them. Pera Wallet is also where your NFT asset will be transferred to and kept upon transaction.
4) After setting up and funding your Pera wallet account, open EPOCH’s website in Pera wallet’s internal browser and click “Connect Algorand Wallet” (if you are on your laptop, scan the QR code with the Pera Wallet app). Select your funded account in Pera Wallet, and then click “Acquire NFT” on EPOCH’s website. In Pera Wallet, you will see 12 transactions which need to be signed for, these are the wallet addresses that go to the non-profit organization (1), all the participating artists (7), EPOCH (1), opting in to the asset (1), closing the escrow (1), and transferring asset from escrow to buyer (1). Confirm these transactions in Pera Wallet to complete your purchase (note: if you get an error and the transaction wasn’t completed its because someone else is also trying to acquire the NFT refresh the browser and try again). Congratulations on owning an EPOCH NFT!
5) To download the interactive stand-alone artwork goto “Collectibles” in your Pera Wallet, select your EPOCH NFT, locate and copy the “Asset ID” and enter it in the search window at NFTexplorer.app. On NFTexplorer, under “DIGITAL MEDIA / ARTWORK” copy and paste the “ipfs://ips…” link into a new browser window. You can also view your certificate of authenticity from NFTexplorer by copy and pasting the “CERTIFICATE” link in your browser window. The EPOCH NFT is playable stand-alone artwork that is permanently stored on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS).

EPOCH has minted the entire virtual exhibition as an NFT featuring artworks by participating artists. The downloadable stand-alone artwork, linked to the NFT, is in full 8K resolution and hi-res audio (as opposed to the compressed web version). The fully functioning, interactive artwork requires no web browser and will run on current Windows and Mac operating systems. To experience the artwork in VR, the application will be able to detect if a compatible VR headset is connected. A new VR icon will appear in the navigation which you can click and enter full VR mode.
Each NFT is editioned and is represented by a corresponding unique (pure not fractionalized), cryptographic token (or NFT), that is recorded on the public Algorand blockchain.
A PDF of the list of compilation artworks and a copy of the Collector Agreement will also accompany the downloadable files.
Legacy EPOCH exhibitions will be eventually released as NFTs.
By purchasing an NFT through EPOCH’s website, your purchase will be transferred within seconds to your Pera Wallet account after your transaction is processed. Your NFT will be located under the “Collectibles” tab in your Pera Wallet. It is the collector’s responsibility to download and archive the stand-alone compilation artwork, which is permanently stored on the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS).

Please be aware that the zip folder file size of the CRYOSPHERE virtual exhibition is 3.2 gigabytes (Windows / Mac compatible) and may take a some time to download depending on your internet connection speed (even though direct downloads from the IPFS are surprisingly fast).
Please note: if you resell your asset on Rand Gallery a royalty of 7.5% will be added to help fund future EPOCH exhibitions (this does not include Rand Gallery’s commission fee).
Algorand has announced it is building cross-chain interoperability where you can move digital assets freely between blockchains and marketplaces.
Any NFT purchased directly through EPOCH’s website is guaranteed to be authentic because you are acquiring it directly from the creator (address: VTAUB5LOVTWKXICWEDBO5UG2JNNGEW7ULRB4PQB23DGRKSAXDVPORQNZJE) and not from a generic marketplace where forgeries can occur. EPOCH works closely with each participating artist to ensure their artworks are properly displayed and represented within each exhibition.
EPOCH is working with Uncopied to mint its NFTs. Uncopied provides enduring certificates of authenticity backed by a contractual agreement on the Algorand blockchain.

Please note that transactions made with Algorand cryptocurrency ( ALGOs) will be processed on the public Algorand blockchain, and your wallet address will be publicly visible (i.e. on AlgoExplorer) when you engage in a transaction on the EPOCH. Once you purchase the NFT, the transaction will be permanently stored and tracked on the Algorand blockchain. We neither own nor control the wallet, the public Algorand blockchain, or any other third party site, product, or service that you might access or use for the purpose of enabling transactions with Algorand cryptocurrency on our website.
In contrast to the high transactional “gas” fees on Ethereum and other POW protocols, Algorand has very minimal minting and transaction fees that can be as low as $0.001 per transaction — regardless of the transaction size.
Collectors of the digital asset (the “Asset”) are encouraged to engage both philosophically and financially with this project as innovators in a uniquely collaborative and creative process. Part of that process includes sharing the information and experience by circulating the Asset and all accompanying documentation to others. Every exchange provides an opportunity for the value of EPOCH’s model to be recognized, and for a broader creative community comprised of the contributing artists to receive support: elevating the place of artists, and advocating for environmentally sustainable practices.
All intellectual property pertaining to the Asset including but not limited to copyright, including applicable moral rights, and trademark, remains with EPOCH. The rights to the artworks included in the Asset all remain with the contributing artists. Under no circumstances is Collector allowed to reproduce the Asset in any medium or create derivative works without EPOCH’s specific written consent. Collector’s purchase of an NFT entitles the Collector to ownership of that NFT, the rights to privately or publicly (with proper credit) display the Asset, and to resell the NFT.
There is sometimes the misperception that by owning an artwork, a collector owns all rights including intellectual property rights like copyright. This is not the case with object-based artwork, and it is also not the case with NFTs. Even though a Collector does not have any intellectual property rights in the Asset to which the NFT points, there are definitely responsibilities that come with ownership. The responsibilities that come with either collecting art or participating in society require attention and maintenance. This transaction is no different, and thus, Collector agrees to participate in this NFT ownership pursuant to the terms of the Collector Agreement.

To experience the artwork in VR, the application will be able to detect if a compatible VR headset is connected. A new VR icon will appear in the navigation which you can click and enter full VR mode. The web version is not compatible with Oculus (Meta), Vive, or Gear VR headsets.
Since the file is in 8K resolution, you can also play it on a high definition television or project the artwork with a video projector. If you start the application and do not navigate or touch the mouse(pad), the artwork will slowly pan though each scene on its own.
